Fill in the blank: I really like dyeing fabric & yarn because I love to create something incredible out of nothing special. I made the quilt at the top from pima cotton that I dyed in a rainbow progression. The borders are commercial prints because I lost the leftover dyed fabric (found it again long after the quilt was finished!) but I think they worked out well.

It's Finally Friday's Feast

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 as highest), about how popular is your last name?
6? (I have no idea, but there are roads and a semi famous actress with the same last name, albeit spelled slightly differently), so I'm guessing it's pretty high. Now, my maiden name would be a 2, although if you went to Lancaster County PA, where there is actually a town named after my ancestors, the number would rise significantly.

Who is your all-time favorite sitcom character, and why?
It's hard to choose. I thought of Marlo Thomas in That Girl, and Lorelei Gilmore, but I'm going to pick Rhoda, because she made me laugh & gave me confidence in myself. It's definitely a woman.

Name a funny habit you have.
My hands must be kept busy at all times. I used to shred my napkin under the table when I wasn't allowed to leave until everyone had finished. Twirling my hair was the first thing that came to mind. I do that when I can't knit, instead of twiddling my thumbs.

Piano, definitely, although Benny Goodman's clarinet playing is incredible, and I did know how to play the clarinet once upon a time.

My hair never gets much below my shoulders, it's always breaking off. I usually have it about shoulder length or a little shorter. It's curly, so it looks shorter when it dries. I cut some bangs last week, which I haven't had for about 20 years.

Which famous person would you like to be for one day? Why?

I would have liked to be Eleanor of Aquitaine when she went to the Holy Land. She was an heiress, married young to Louis, King of France so he could get her lands. He divorced her because she gave birth to two daughters, no sons. While married to Louis, she went with him to the Holy Land on a Crusade. There are rumours that she had an affair with Saladin, the Arab leader. After the divorce, Eleanor went home to Aquitaine, which reverted back to her, and she soon married the much younger Henry II of England (right before he became king). They had 5 sons and a few daughters too. He then fell in love with someone else and put Eleanor in prison for years after she (perhaps) poisoned her rival. Eleanor went on a second Crusade with her son, Richard the Lionheart, when she was entitled to stay home and rest on her laurels. Richard sent her back to Aquitaine with his new bride Berengaria to govern there in his absence. He had left England in the hands of his brother John, and we all know how well that turned out.

I have passed a typing test at 45 words a minute but only because I have a photographic memory. I refused to take typing in school because I wasn't going to be a secretary. Many term papers (and blog entries) later, I sometimes regret my decision.

What is your favorite kind of bread?

Sourdough of any type, most especially Beckman's Three Seed whole wheat variety and the long gone but still lamented late bake sourdough loaves from Lombardi's. When we lived on the East Coast our friends would send us sourdough bread and hard salami from San Francisco for Christmas.

whew! probably 5-6. Surfing doesn't include reading email, posting to my blog, or shopping for stuff, right?

When you were a child, which crayon color was your favorite?

Periwinkle Blue, but I liked every wierd color in the 64 crayon box. I still buy a new box every so often, especially when they add new colors.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest), how likely would you be to change jobs if it required you to move?
The job would have to pay a lot more and be an exciting challenge. If those qualifications were met, I'd say 9. If not, 1.

Take all the numbers in your birthday and your phone number and add them up, one by one. What’s the total?
If I add together the final total and then add those two numbers together, it's 4. If I don't keep combining, it's 67 (a very good year.)

Have you ever “re-gifted” anything? If so, what was it and who did you pass it on to?

I regifted a crystal bowl as a wedding present. My DD once got a birthday present of some coloring books that were already colored in by the children who gave them to her. They could not afford a new present. It was a very powerful lesson for her.
